Code of Conduct
Members of VIANZ agree to the following principles:
To advocate on behalf of New Zealanders for equitable access to vaping products and to help educate and support smokers as they try to quit.
Vaping products manufactured, distributed, and imported by VIANZ members do not contain any tobacco. VIANZ members support the policies underpinning the public health objectives of the Tobacco Convention and are committed to helping educate and support smokers as they try to quit.
To stand up strongly against youth vaping and prevent under-18 access by undertaking an under-25 ID policy and mystery shopper ID-check audits to ensure compliance. All retail staff undertake age verification training to prevent the sale of vaping products to under-18s.
Online retailers must ensure they have adequate measures in place to prevent youth from accessing vaping products. All vaping products dispatched via online sellers should utilise over-18 stickers and ensure courier services conduct an ID check prior to delivery.
Vaping product designs must not be directed at people under 18 years old or designed to appeal to people under 18 years old.
To comply with all legislative and regulatory requirements under the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990 and the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Regulations 2021.
To ensure compliance with the regulations in terms of product quality, manufacturing, and safety standards so that customers can have complete confidence that VIANZ members only supply legally compliant vaping products.
Strive to improve best practice across the industry, and behave in a manner that gives regulators, government, public health authorities and consumers confidence in VIANZ and its members.
To work with regulators to protect consumers from black market, non-compliant or poor-quality vaping products and proactively report industry behaviour that is not in line with the regulations.
Members shall:
Manage their businesses in accordance with the laws of New Zealand.
Act with honesty, objectivity and integrity.
Not engage in anti-competitive conduct.
Not use any VIANZ trade marks except as authorised by the Board.
