Role of e-cigarette nicotine concentration in longitudinal transitions between cigarette, e-cigarette and dual use

Hongying Daisy Dai, Abraham Degarege, Paula R Guastello

A new study published in Tobacco Control found that smokers using higher-strength nicotine e-cigarettes (≥1.8%) were more likely to switch exclusively to vaping or quit smoking altogether than those using low- or no-nicotine products.

One finding particularly stands out: nearly half of dual users using 0% nicotine had switched back to smoking cigarettes exclusively at follow-up.

The findings provide further evidence that nicotine strength matters for smokers trying to switch from cigarettes.
